Welcome
Kia ora and welcome to the Postgraduate Programme webpage of the School of Physiotherapy.
Physiotherapy is a dynamic and continually evolving health discipline and the demand for effective interventions requires clinicians to have high levels of competence supported by strong research evidence. Otago’s Postgraduate Physiotherapy Programmes are designed to provide graduates with the necessary skill, knowledge and expertise to meet these challenges.
The fundamental aim of the Clinical Postgraduate Programmes at the School of Physiotherapy is to integrate research and clinical expertise to enable Physiotherapists to communicate and practice effectively. Our Clinical Programmes are uniquely placed to offer postgraduate students the opportunity to develop skills, knowledge and attributes under the supervision of highly qualified physiotherapists with specialised expertise. The close working relationship with other professional schools and departments within the Division of Health Sciences at the University of Otago means that we have the ability to draw on the expertise of other health professionals and scientists to contribute to this Programme.
The current course-work based Programmes in Physiotherapy offer a mix of residential and distance taught papers and qualifications. The University of Otago has the provision to staircase your qualifications from a Postgraduate Certificate, to Postgraduate Diploma and Masters level without the need to relinquish your previous qualification.
Our residential programmes, which are popular with International Students, are an important part of postgraduate physiotherapy education offering students the unique Otago experience. An advantage of these residential programmes is the ability to directly liaise and interact with academic staff, researchers, clinicians and other students with the additional benefit of directly accessing library, research and information facilities and resources.
Research based Masters and PhD programmes are also a strength of the School of Physiotherapy. The school has a growing research culture borne out by the continuing success of staff and students in acquiring contestable research funding and publishing in prestigious journals. Part-time and full-time study options are available for students embarking on research or academic careers.
We welcome your interest in our Programmes and invite you to continue to browse through our Postgraduate offerings on the following web pages and use this information to plan your future studies. We look forward to your enquiries and applications. Please do not hesitate to contact us if you require more advice or information.
